Way Back Before Christmas . . .

I know that I have been a blog slacker. It is just that between holidays, training holidays, and half days during block leave Brad has been home a lot, and I just haven’t been able to bring myself to sit at the computer and edit and post pictures while he is here. But today he went back to work, and so I am getting back to posting. I have a few things to post, but we will see how much I get done. I have my niece and nephew with me this week while their parents are visiting Prague. Brad and I are trying out three kids to see how we like it. :-) Maybe I will get a chance to take a picture of all of them together — they look like little triplets running around my house.

Anyway, before Christmas I decided that it would be really fun if Annika and I made pinecone bird feeders together. I told her that we were going to make presents for the birds and she was very excited. That is about the point that the project started to go much differently than I had envisioned it. While I was getting the string and pinecones Annika opened the jar of peanut butter and helped herself by the handful. Once we got started Annika just kept eating peanut butter, even licking it off the pinecone. At one point she ate a handful of birdseed. I told her that it was gross and she said “mmmmm!” We finally finished and hung them up outside. We really did have fun together, but it was another reminder that projects with an almost two year old never go quite a nicely as they do in my head.

January 4, 2010 - 9:42 pm Taniel - with that crazy kid I am not sure that you would expect anything to be idyllic. It seems to me that the fun of the projects is seeing how annie reacts to all of them. I was actually thinking about making bird feeders this year too (only difference being that you actually made them, and I only thought about it.) I love you guys!

January 4, 2010 - 1:00 pm MOM - Can you blame her??? Peanut butter is not just for the birds! It's one of my favorite snacks. Spoon, peanut butter, rolled in chocolate chips--ta da!

January 4, 2010 - 12:12 pm Monica - Yep Anya AND Lex licked peanut butter off pinecones at 3 maybe even 4! She is so big!!! Love the hair and projects are so fun even if they don't go exactly as planned.

January 4, 2010 - 9:28 am Britteny Grow - That is so funny about the bird seed. I know exactly what you mean about projects not going the way you envision them in your head. We have the same thing happen at our house too. But, like you said, you still have fun together.

January 4, 2010 - 9:06 am Cristine - Look at her hair!!! I love it! If it makes you feel any better I think Anya was licking peanut butter off pinecones at 3, so Anni is doing pretty good! HA HA! Looking forward to seeing more posts. Oooh... and maybe another belly pic! :)
