Naptime Musings

I’ve realized recently that this blog has changed for me. When I started it I wanted to focus primarily on my new business. I was very careful about the quality of photos I posted here, even when they were of my family. I was creating a style, and trying to create my brand. I was wary of sharing too much of my personal life. Then I found out I was pregnant with twins. My priorities started to shift, and while I love this business, it is harder for me to separate it from my personal life. I am not taking pictures because I need the extra cash or because I feel like I need another job besides that of “mom.” I really just love doing it. I love meeting new families and getting to know them as I capture their lives. I love that taking pictures of other people pushes me to be a better photographer, to be more creative, and to be constantly looking for ways to improve. Improving as a photographer has allowed me to capture my life and my children better than I could before, and that makes me pretty excited. I guess this is a long way of saying that I am a mom first, and a photographer second, but I think that being a photographer has helped me be a better mom and being a mom definitely helps me be a better photographer. I feel like my blog reflects this focus, and I like that.

These are the kinds of things I think about while all my kids are sleeping. Sometimes when the day is crazy it is easy to feel frustrated and wish that naptime and/or bedtime would come sooner. Then they all eventually fall asleep, and the house gets quiet, and I kind of miss my girls. I sit down and edit pictures and see their smiles and relive my day and remember why I like being a mom so much.

Elise boycotted her nap the other day. So what do you do when you have one baby awake, but the other two are sleeping? You throw down a blanket on the bathroom floor and start taking pictures. (Isn’t that what everyone would do?)

Cristine - You are an amazing photographer and I wish that we were still in Germany so that you could photograph my family! I love seeing all these pics of your kids! They are beautiful!

Taniel - You and Brad make cute babies. I am glad that you have changed your focus, because what I care about most is seeing my darling nieces, and hearing about you, so great!

Wendy - I’m commenting! Woo-hoo! I love that you blog about your family—I wouldn’t care if you quit taking pictures of other people altogether and focused on the girls:) I love Lucy’s pirate-eye as well. Justin and I practiced telling the twins apart and we found it to be pretty easy with her cute little eye! Great pictures!

MOM - I am just counting the days! (Your bathroom has beautiful light, by the way)

Britteny Grow - Sush cute pictures. I think the nap time was well spent. You are such a great mom and photographer, you truly have a gift for both. The girls are all adorable and I can’t wait to see them.

McKenzie - Love it! Your girls are beautiful!

Brianne - Erica, they are so beautiful! I would love to meet them all someday when you are visiting in Washington.
