Thank goodness I have flexible, easy going clients, or this session could have really been a bust! To start with, we had to reschedule a couple of times, mostly due to bad weather. Winter is well on its way, and it has been raining and raining and raining here in Baumholder. We finally got a day where it wasn’t raining, but it was wet and foggy. I did my homework, and checked out the location the morning before the shoot, so I figured we were good to go. We parked, and got some great pictures. The problem came when we went back to the cars so we could drive to a different location. I had not taken into account how wet and muddy the grass was, and when we tried to drive back up the little hill we had parked on, we were stuck. With some direction from Juan, I was able to get enough momentum to get my car up the hill, but their car just kept spinning in the wet grass. Luckily, a very nice German man stopped his van and helped the Villegas’ push their car free. Their car was plastered from fender to bumper in mud. I really should have taken a picture, but I was so embarrassed I didn’t even think of it. I was very careful about where we parked the second time around and the remainder of our session was great. Thanks guys, for being so patient and understanding, and for helping me get my car unstuck. I really enjoyed getting to know you and I hope you love your pictures.

Rona wasn’t feeling very good during this shoot, but she was a great sport anyway. I wish that I looked this beautiful when I was sick. In fact, I wish I looked this beautiful when I wasn’t sick! Leavin’ On a Jet Plane

Brad and I are leaving tomorrow morning to make the big trek across the ocean. We are both thrilled that we will be able to see our families and that Annika will get spoiled by her grandparents on both sides and many doting aunts and uncles. We are not so thrilled about the long, long, long plane ride. Wish us luck and send happy child vibes our way. I am not sure what kind of internet access or computer time I will have while I am gone, so I may have to miss a couple of “Thousand Words” posts. Since I am taking a blogging haitus, I thought I would leave you with some shots. I finished the Hatches pictures today, so I thought I would share a few more. I have a backlog of Annika pictures to post, but since I need to finish packing, I guess those are going to have to wait.

My Mom really is a fantastic photographer and for most of my life, she has been the one behind the lens. Growing up I felt annoyed at times as my Mom pushed us for “just one more picture.” But now I am grateful to have wonderful pictures of all the fun things we have done as a family and to have some good pictures of myself as well. (Those can be hard to come by!) My sister and I love to look back through all of our old pictures; the memories of a happy childhood come flooding back.

It was watching my Mom take pictures that sparked my interest in photography and she taught me all of the basics, and helped me figure out where to go and what to do so that I could keep learning more. Even now she is my best critic and is always the first one to look at my photos and help me figure out what I can do better and how I can improve. We challenge each other to think creatively, to work hard, and to keep improving.

Since my Mom’s visit fell over both her birthday and mother’s day, and since she has been the one taking pictures for so long, we decided that it was time for a role reversal and we headed out into the German countryside to take some pictures of my beautiful mother. I am not kidding when I say that she gets better looking all the time, and I can’t even count the number of times that we have been mistaken for sisters. No, I am not kidding, this is my Mom (not my friend or my sister) and I sure hope that I got her genes for good looks.

Thanks for visiting Mom, it has meant the world to Annika and I. We couldn’t ask for a better Mom and Oma.
